Title

Backlog for Value, Clarity and Outcome Alignment

Overview

Roadmap is a misnomer for building great software, it somehow suggests roads leading to the destination exist. Instead, it’s like a dark forest, and we are deep inside, forget the map, many teams don't even have shoes. Imagine you are deciding what to do in such a situation to get out of the forest. Yet, the digital world is thriving and solving problems like never before. Most unexplored and distant industries also have significant digital footprint today. Being in the requirements world who was part of failed and successful products, I see patterns that help us move forward and patterns that push us towards potential failures.

Backlog is not something which you create and pass it to the team to develop over years, it needs to be maintained, enriched and evolved everyday. Stale backlogs are most teams story.

In this talk, I will share experiential learning about how you go about creating a product backlog which is true to the vision and delivers the value. I will also talk about how to analyze the backlog at hand for readiness to go forward, assess risk, volatility and completeness. This becomes further important in today’s world as business and tech boundaries are merging fast - domains such as data & AI, AR, VR, Blockchain are getting embedded in every area of business. We will discuss tools and techniques which help us uncover the surprises sooner, foster collaboration and help our team succeed in achieving business outcomes.
